About the Fest

Two fires burn across the Greater Red Hills Region. One runs low and slow through the pines each winter, prescribed to protect the land we tend, hunt, and fish. The other feeds people and builds community. It's the one burning at every hunt camp, neighborhood tailgate, and family reunion.

The Red Hills BBQ Fest brings these fires together in the same field: skilled pitmasters, cooking for the people, and a conservation-focused fundraiser that gives back to the ground that made all of it possible.

This year, we're raising money for two amazing causes: Wolf Creek Trout Lily Preserve and Tall Timbers.

Four competition categories, and a field full of pit-bosses and backyard enthusiasts who've been tending fires since before daylight. Some are cooking for our blind panel of judges and competition glory; some are just cooking for us. Either way, we get to eat it. Not a BBQ person? There will also be food trucks. Don't eat meat? We've got a craft beer garden too. Beer is vegan. We checked.

It's just $15 per person at the gate and kids 10 and under are free.

Local favorites including Southern Shake (above), NEON, and Whigham's own Johnny Marshall Band will be playing all afternoon. But stick around for Butterknife Shawty to close us out at sundown.

Cornhole boards and horseshoe pits set up right next to the beer tent.

First come, first served, and arguing about the rules is encouraged. Bounce houses for the ten-and-under crowd, free all day.

FAQ

What kinds of BBQ will be served?

Beef, pork, and poultry down the whole row, plus sides, desserts, and whatever else somebody's grandmother taught them to make. A few pits will have wild game if you're feeling adventurous. You'll see every way there is to do this. Offset smokers running pecan wood and hickory. Kamados and kettles. Cinderblock pits built that morning. Somebody with a whole hog on a homemade rig they welded themselves, and somebody else cooking direct over coals raked out by shovel the old way. Sweet, hot, smoky, vinegar-sharp — twenty cooks means twenty opinions about how this ought to taste, and you get to settle it for yourself.

How do I find the fest?

The festival will be hosted at PB Farms: 761 Attapulgus-Whigham Rd. in Whigham, Georgia. It's a short 3 minute drive from downtown Whigham to get there and we'll make sure there are signs marking the turn off. See map below.

When should I come?

The festival will be open November 21 to attendees starting at 10am. There will be music performances throughout the day. The smokers and grills will keep going until 7pm or when supplies run out.

Should I bring a chair?

For sure. There will be some picnic tables, but bringing a chair or a picnic blanked is highly encouraged.

Is this a family friendly event?

Yes. We'll have country, rock, and blues music all day. As far as food choices, there will be a wide array of BBQ cook sites who will be handing out samples and food trucks with something for everyone. Bounce houses for kids ten and under. Corn hole available first come, first served. And lots of open space to run around, just don't get lost (looking at you grandma).

What's the parking situation?

There's ample parking at the festival grounds and overflow parking across the street if needed. Parking is free for attendees.

How much does it cost to attend?

Entry is $15 per person. Kids 10 and under enter for free. Each cook site will have food for sample and there will also be food trucks and a beer garden.

What is the VIP tasting experience?

There are 100 VIP experience tickets for pre-sale and once they're gone they're gone. Behind the VIP rope, we've got a pro-pit lineup that has no business being in a town this size, especially for a year 1 festival: Eric Walden. Red Dirt Rich. Butterknife Shawty. Captain Ron. More to be announced soon. Each of our pro-pit masters is cooking for you the way they'd cook it for their own people. Bring your appetite. Talk to the cooks. Eat some of the best food you've ever tasted.

Are there bathroom accommodations?

Only the finest port-o-johns and hand washing stations! Or find yourself a tree (just kidding).

How is accessibility?

The primary event grounds is a flat open field which should be ok for wheelchair accessibility. If you've got mobility issues or get tired easily, we do recommend bringing a chair because tables and provided seating is limited.
